About the Client
Global Construction & Engineering Solutions Leader
Leviat, part of the CRH group, is a global leader in construction accessories and engineering solutions. In the United States it supports thousands of contractors and distributors with an extensive product catalogue, delivering every order with the precision, reliability and trust that define its brand.
Leviat wanted to offer key clients an additional online self-service ordering option as part of a streamlined, scalable and future-ready digital platform.

Clients Challenges
The Challenge
Leviat’s North American team wanted to give select customers more flexibility in how they place and manage orders, adding an e-commerce option alongside the standard telephone and email channels. The platform had to give those customers access to accurate product information, plus up-to-date pricing and inventory data.
The project presented several key challenges:
- Building the digital infrastructure to deliver accurate, real-time product, pricing and inventory data.
- Connecting the e-commerce platform securely to Microsoft Dynamics AX.
- Digitising hundreds of SKUs into a structured, searchable and filterable online store.
- Supporting a diverse client base with customer-specific pricing, multi-location delivery and repeat ordering.
- Giving customers account management tools, including order histories and shipment tracking.
- Designing for multi-store deployment so similar solutions could be rolled out to other regions.
The challenge was ultimately to create a digital ordering experience as precise and dependable as Leviat’s own service, one that could scale from the US to markets worldwide.

Project Goals
What We Set Out to Deliver
Leviat needed more than an online catalogue. It needed a B2B buyer portal that reimagined how construction professionals order, track and manage their supply chain. The brief brought together several intersecting goals:

While the platform is still evolving, it’s exciting to witness both the technology and the organization advancing together.

Key Functionality
Headless Architecture
The Leviat Buyer Portal uses a headless BigCommerce build with Catalyst, separating the front-end experience from the back-end commerce engine. This approach delivers exceptional performance, faster load times, and complete flexibility in designing user experiences without platform constraints
Integration With Microsoft Dynamics AX
Seamless integration with Microsoft Dynamics AX ensures that product, pricing, and inventory data flow directly between the ERP and the eCommerce platform. This eliminates manual data entry, improves accuracy, and keeps business operations in sync in real time.
Middleware Powered by AWS
Custom middleware built on AWS acts as the secure bridge between BigCommerce and Microsoft Dynamics AX. It enables high-frequency data synchronization, error handling, and performance scaling while ensuring sensitive business data remains protected. This architecture also allows us to integrate third-party tools more efficiently, enabling us to meet customer requirements that aren’t natively supported within BigCommerce and deliver tailored functionality without compromising performance.
Customer-Specific Pricing & Experiences
Every customer sees pricing tailored to their specific contract agreements, ensuring consistency and transparency. The platform also adapts product visibility, content, and promotions to suit individual customer profiles and buying habits.
Advanced AI-Powered Search With Algolia
Algolia’s AI-powered search delivers instant, relevant results across thousands of SKUs. Customers can search by keywords, product attributes, or technical specifications, with predictive suggestions that reduce search time and improve product discovery.
Reordering & Saved Carts
Frequent buyers can reorder from past purchases in just a few clicks or save carts for future use. This speeds up procurement workflows and helps customers maintain consistent stock levels without manually rebuilding orders.
Inventory Visibility & Stock Alerts
Real-time stock levels are visible at the product page level, and customers can subscribe to alerts when inventory falls below or returns to specific thresholds. This transparency helps buyers plan orders more effectively and avoid supply chain disruptions.
Multi-Location Shipping
The platform supports shipments to multiple locations within a single order, ideal for customers managing multiple job sites or regional warehouses. This reduces administrative overhead and ensures materials are delivered exactly where they’re needed.
Role-Based Permissions & MFA
Administrators can assign different access levels within each customer account, controlling who can view, order, or manage settings. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security, protecting sensitive purchasing and account data.
Product Literature & Supporting Documents
A key feature of the platform is the ability to attach product literature such as data sheets, brochures, installation guides, or regulatory documents directly to each product. Customers can easily access, download, or share this information, ensuring they have the technical and compliance resources they need at their fingertips.
Global Scalability
Although the project began in the USA, the platform’s architecture provides a scalable foundation for rapid regional expansion. Already deployed in one European market, the solution combines custom middleware connecting BigCommerce with Microsoft Dynamics AX to support specialised regional workflows, alongside PunchOut Cloud integrations that connect directly with customer procurement systems to streamline purchasing and strengthen engagement. Its flexible multi-store architecture allows Leviat to replicate core functionality across countries while adapting language, currency, and product availability to local markets. Consistent branding and UX maintain a unified global identity, while centralised governance supports security, compliance, and operational efficiency. Together, these capabilities enable Leviat to expand into new markets efficiently, meet regional requirements, strengthen client relationships, and improve procurement experiences worldwide.
