Mace is a global gifting and sustainable merchandise consultancy with a simple but powerful belief: Merchandise can be better.
They partner with companies that care, creating and supplying beautiful, responsibly made products that inspire connection and purpose. From concept to delivery, Mace helps brands tell their story through high-quality, sustainable merchandise.
With an expanding international client base and multiple online storefronts, Mace needed a digital solution that would bring their e-commerce operations under one unified platform — while maintaining flexibility for each brand experience.
While Mace had a strong brand and a growing portfolio of merchandise programs, managing different storefronts, checkout experiences, and order processes created inefficiencies and extra admin work.
They needed one platform to power all of their merch sites, with the ability to tailor checkout flows and branding for each client.
Specific challenges included:
Our team partnered with Mace to design and develop a custom BigCommerce solution that unified their entire merchandising ecosystem. We built two core stores using Stencil and BigCommerce Multi-Storefront, providing both flexibility and scalability. This setup allows Mace to control all storefronts from a single dashboard while maintaining distinct front-end designs and checkout experiences for each brand. By leveraging multi-storefront, we ensured new stores could be launched quickly and consistently — applying customisations and integrations seamlessly. Live carrier rates were implemented directly into the checkout, giving customers real-time pricing while reducing manual admin for staff.
Live shipping rates are pulled directly from carrier APIs through to ShipperHQ in real time, ensuring customers always see accurate delivery costs at checkout. This reduces manual pricing errors and improves transparency, helping Mace’s team maintain consistency across regions and carriers.
A fully custom checkout experience was built with dynamic fields and client-specific logic, allowing each storefront to tailor its process to unique business requirements. This flexibility enables Mace to easily add or modify checkout fields — such as PO numbers, gift notes, or cost centre inputs — without additional development work.
Using BigCommerce’s Multi-Storefront capabilities, Mace can manage all of its merchandise stores from a single backend dashboard. This centralised control simplifies product updates, order tracking, and reporting, while still allowing each storefront to maintain its own branding and unique design.
The platform integrates seamlessly with Mace’s ERP system, enabling automated syncing of orders, inventory levels, and financial data. This connection eliminates manual data entry, reduces errors, and provides real-time visibility into business operations.
The build was designed with reusable modules and a scalable framework, allowing custom features and styles to be quickly replicated across new stores. This approach dramatically reduces setup time for new client storefronts, ensuring every launch is consistent, efficient, and on-brand.
From the outset, our design and UX process focused on simplicity, clarity, and ease of navigation. Each storefront was designed to feel unique while maintaining a consistent and intuitive user journey.
User-first considerations included:
The new BigCommerce platform transformed how Mace manages its e-commerce operations.
By consolidating multiple merch sites into a single system, they can now accurately track order costs and logistics without manual input. Their custom checkout empowers the team to easily add or edit fields for client-specific requirements — something not possible in their previous setup.
